Over the past twenty-something years I have written plays for amateurs and professionals, for children, young people and adults. I have crafted new drama out of the reminiscences of older people to put into the mouths of schoolchildren. I have directed paid actors and dedicated members of local drama groups. I have run workshops on the craft of playwriting with students and adults.

I have written for many people and for many reasons. I have directed in order to make many points or to address specific issues - teenage pregnancy, arson, substance misuse - and sometimes to celebrate a specific place or event. Some work simply attempts to capture and articulate what beautiful, funny, tragic, rich, diverse and similar lives we have.

If it doesn’t sound too perverse, I like to think that I am passionate about theatre but I’m not always convinced by theatres – meaningful drama doesn’t need a special building to unfold in - a school, community centre or village hall will do just fine.
